Chinese Typing Tutor (Cang-Jie)
A gracious thank you to Stephen Tse and Eric Cho from the Queen Elizabeth school in Hong Kong for allowing us to be a satellite host for their Chinese typing tutor software. Click here to start the tutor software! Alternatively, you can download the typing tutor to run off of your local hard drive. You will need Java installed on your computer for it to work.
Note: We don't have the system set up to record your scores, when it asks for your login just click the "login" button and it will treat you as a guest user.
"Cang-Jie" is the name of the first method of inputing Chinese words into a computer. It also happens to be the best. It uses fundamental shapes as building blocks for characters. No character takes more than five keystrokes to type. Learning Cang-Jie will increase your ability to learn and recognize Chinese words by leaps and bounds. It will enable you to type Chinese in the fastest manner possible.
Cang-Jie was invented by master Chu Bangfu over 25 years ago in Taiwan. It is now used to type both traditional and simplified characters. Find out more about the history of Cang-Jie here.
The only book for English speakers to learn Cang-Jie appears to be Edouard Butler's seminal work (ISBN 957744479-2). Luckily for us it is a very good text. You may contact Edouard here: eddy.butler@gmail.com. The best way to get a copy is direct from the author, just send him an Email, he'll be happy to chat with you. He charges $35 for this large 378 page book ($20 for the book and $15 for international shipping). Edouard prefers to be paid via PayPal. We keep an archived copy of the author's original website which is full of useful information: Edouard's CJMember site.
Sincerely,
Aaron Rosenzweig
